Been thinking about the plot, and I realized that as it is, there's a small problem-- most renai VNs cover a period of about a month or two, giving the interests a reasonable amount of "time" to develop a relationship with the protagonist. I was imagining that the debate would be about five days before everything broke down. Five days is too short to develop or break any bonds of loyalty (short of some overly dramatic plot twists), and with thirty days, we would either have to delay or break up the meeting (not likely, since it's urgent) or actually have it last that long (I'm not sure there would be enough material to cover it.
My solution for that would be to make the meeting start out as something else-- a weapons training program for young samurai from both fiefs. Nobuhisa would be coming along to talk about trade policy and other points of mutual interest, as well as sizing up Jiemon. The announcement that the western claimant has died would come in two, three weeks in, and then there would five-to-nine day period where both sides would try to make their claims for what they want to do.
